A commercial genomics solution for the world
How can market-based models unlock the vast majority of genomic data that remains inaccessible today? Just 15,000 of Earth's 10 million to 1 billion species have been sequenced—yet those few sequences enabled most modern biological breakthroughs. The remaining 99.9% holds enormous value, but progress has stalled due to the lack of systems that give data producers fair attribution, protection, and revenue, and data users clear, reliable frameworks. This discussion examines why commercial marketplace dynamics may succeed where infrastructure and policy have struggled, and how aligning economic incentives with scientific goals can unlock breakthrough discoveries that benefit everyone.
